
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Tarn Taran organized a training programme for officers of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
of district Tarn Taran, focusing on scientific cultivation of Kharif maize and the balanced use of fertilizers.
The programme was attended by 21 field functionaries, including two Block Agricultural Officers, six Agricultural Development Officers, 12 Agricultural Extension Officers, and one representative from the Project Directorate ATMA. The training aimed to strengthen the technical knowledge and advisory skills of agriculture officers so that they can effectiv
ely guide farmers in adopting improved maize production technologies and nutrient management practices.
Experts from KVK highlighted the importance of selecting suitable maize hybrids, timely sowing, integrated crop management, weed control, and efficient water management for achieving higher productivity during the Kharif season. Special emphasis was laid on the judicious and balanced application of fertilizers based on soil test recommendations to enhance nutrient-use efficiency, reduce input costs, and maintain soil health.
The participants actively interacted with the resource persons and discussed field-level challenges related to maize cultivation and fertilizer management. The programme concluded with a call for promoting sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring the effective dissemination of scientific recommendations among farmers across the district.
