ev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab, organised a one-day Master Trainers’ workshop on Goat, Sheep, Pig, Poultry for Veterinary Officers of the state. A total of 43 Veterinary Officers representing different districts of Punjab participated in the programme. Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor emphasized that continuous capacity building of veterinary professionals is imperative for ensuring efficient animal healthcare services and sustainable livestock development. He highlighted that such practical, need-based training programmes enable veterinary officers to update their technical expertise, adopt emerging technologies and effectively address the evolv
ing challenges faced by the livestock sector. Dr. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, stressed that such programmes bridge the gap between scientific advancements and field-level application, ultimately benefiting the farming community. Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Deputy Director (Small Ruminants), Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab revealed that these Veterinary officers will act as master trainers to train other veterinarians in field and farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education and Dr. Ravdeep Singh . The workshop focused on practical and field-oriented aspects of veterinary practice including blood sampling techniques in poultry and pigs, surgical management of urinary obstruction, nutritional requirements of sheep, goats, pigs and poultry, farm economics, humane euthanasia methods for small animals and standard post-mortem procedures. The participants highly appreciated the practical sessions, which enhanced their technical competencies and preparedness for field challenges. They emphasised that such need-based training programmes ultimately benefit livestock farmers and strengthen the state's animal healthcare delivery system.
