Proper Financial Planning, Scientific Management and Marketing is key of Dairy Farming Success - Dr Gill, Vice-Chancellor

University is always on the beck and call of farmers for any guidance or challenge. Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Veterinary and Animal Sciences University uttered these words to the trainee farmers. He was sharing his knowledge and experiences with dairy farming trainees to guide them to become profitable entrepreneurs. While interacting, he stressed the importance of financial planning, scientific management and market-oriented dairy farming. He urged farmers to diversify beyond the sale of liquid milk by venturing into value-added dairy products, branding and collective marketing through Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). He advised the participants to plan their investments wisely, actively participate in day-to-day farm management rather than relying solely on hired labour, and remain associated with the University for continuous technical guidance, and assistance. He assured the full technical handholding to all new startups in this sector.During the session, he also sought inputs from the trainees and assured them that their suggestions would be incorporated to further strengthen future training programmes
Dr.Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, highlighted that success in dairy farming demands patience, perseverance and continuous learning.He advised them to learn from progressive dairy farmers, avoid unnecessary expenditure and take full advantage of the University's extension services, publications, entrepreneurship support and marketing initiatives. He emphasized that practical experience, coupled with scientific knowledge, is the foundation of a successful dairy enterprise.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Head of the Extension Department, revealed that the extension wing is committed to uplift livestock farmers and farming through all possible means. A total of 64 trainees including five women from 12 districts of Punjab are attending this ongoing two weeks training programme on dairy farming, he added further.
