Vet Varsity Launches Plantation Drive to Enhance Green Cover on Campus

July 22

Celebrating the auspicious occasion of the 650th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, organized a Plantation Drive under the aegis of the District Administration, Ludhiana, with the objective of enhancing green cover of the university campus and reinforcing its commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
The plantation drive was formally inaugurated by Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, in the presence of university officers, faculty members, staff and students. The event was graced by Sh. Kamalpreet Singh, Range Officer, Ludhiana who appreciated the University's commitment towards environmental conservation and assured continued support for such initiatives.
As part of first phase of the campaign, 500 tree saplings, sourced from the District Forest Office, Ludhiana, are being planted across the campus. This phase of the drive is focused on increasing the green cover and developing dense shade along the university's roads, parking areas and other open spaces, thereby improving the campus microclimate, reducing heat stress and providing a pleasant environment for the students, employees and visitors.

Dr. J.P.S. Gill emphasized the importance of conserving the native biodiversity and highlighted that planting indigenous species ensures higher survival rates, better ecological balance and long-term environmental benefits. He called upon every member of the university community to actively participate in protecting and nurturing the planted saplings.
