Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University , Ludhiana, observed the National Mass Pledge against Drug Abuse 
under the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,” an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, launched by Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi. The programme was also virtually joined by Punjab Governor and Chancellor of State Universities, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, from Chandigarh. The initiative aimed at inspiring youth to stay away from substance abuse and encouraging them to become 
ambassadors of positive social change in respective communities.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, stated that Vet Varsity achieved cent percent participation of its students and those from affiliated colleges in the virtual Anti-Drug Pledge. He said the overwhelming response reflected the students’ determination to stay away from substance abuse and contribute
towards building a healthy, responsible and progressive society. Appreciating their participation, Dr. Gill emphasized that youth are the driving force behind the vision of a developed India and urged them to become ambassadors of positive change by spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse within their families and communities.
To further strengthen its commitment to the “Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan,” the University has initiated a series of physical anti-drug pledge programmes across its campus, off-campus institutions and affiliated colleges. The first 
phase was organized in the University hostels, where students collectively reaffirmed their commitment to a drug-free life and pledged to promote awareness against substance abuse.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal, Director of Students’ Welfare, who highlighted the crucial role of youth in building a drug-free society. Dr. Harkirat Singh, Nodal Officer of the Anti-Drug Committee for Drug-Free University Campus, coordinated the event and outlined the University’s ongoing efforts in awareness, prevention and community engagement.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by students, faculty, staff and hostel wardens, reaffirming the University’s commitment to the vision of “Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India.”
