Vet Varsity Organizes Workshop on Building a Mentally Healthy Campus

Directorate of Students' Welfare, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized an interactive workshop titled "Building a Mentally Healthy Campus: A Workshop to Sensitize Faculty, Staff and Student Peer Groups" to promote awareness about mental health and foster a culture of compassion, empathy, and psychological well-being.
Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Directorate's for taking this timely initiative to strengthen mental health awareness on the campus. He emphasized that promoting psychological well-being is as important as academic and professional excellence and lauded the university's proactive efforts to create a supportive and inclusive campus environment.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Opinder Singh, Registrar, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized that mental well-being is fundamental to academic excellence, professional success, and personal growth. Welcoming the participants, Dr. J. S. Hundal, Director Students' Welfare, highlighted that Varsity is committed to ensuring that every student, faculty member, and staff member has access to a caring, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where mental health is recognized as a shared responsibility.
The expert sessions were conducted by renowned psychologists Dr. D. J. Singh and Dr. Darpan Kaur Aulakh, who delivered engaging and interactive presentations on mental health awareness, recognizing the early signs of emotional distress, managing stress and anxiety, building emotional resilience, and fostering empathy and peer support. Through practical examples and case discussions, they motivated participants to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges, encourage timely intervention, and seek professional help whenever required. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and student peer groups. Dr. Gopika Talwar and Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Programme Coordinators  stated that the valuable suggestions received during the workshop will help formulate the University's One-Year Mental Health and Well-being Action Plan, focusing on mental health awareness, counselling services, capacity building, and student-led mental health initiatives.
