Vet Varsity Shares Remarkable Achievements on Independence Day

August 15

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated in a very enthusiastic atmosphere at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, hoisted the national flag and paid homage to the freedom fighters. He remembered the patriots and heroes who had sacrificed their lives for freedom. He said that we should never forget such warriors.
In his address Dr. Gill discussed significant achievements across education, research, innovation, clinical services, extension education, student development and infrastructure expansion.
The University continued to strengthen its academic excellence, with graduates securing placements in government and corporate sectors, while several students pursued higher education in reputed international institutions. Innovative initiatives such as educational mobile applications, AI-based chatbots, upgraded laboratories, international collaborations, establishment of an Equine Laboratory and the successful organization of TEDxGADVASU added new dimensions to teaching and learning.
Research and innovation received a major boost through 20 externally funded new projects, national and international collaborations, three patents and AI-driven One Health initiatives. The University successfully commercialized several technologies, including dairy premixes, specialty cheeses, goat milk products and livestock feed innovations. Scientific outreach was further enhanced through international symposiums and collaborative research programmes.
In the areas of veterinary healthcare and livestock development, the University treated more than 55,000 animals and tested over 59,000 diagnostic samples. Significant improvements were recorded in livestock farms through enhanced milk production, reduced mortality rates and increased mechanization. Extensive extension programmes, training courses, livestock melas and village outreach activities benefited thousands of farmers and rural youth.
Faculty members brought laurels to the University by earning 140 awards, honours and fellowships at national and international levels. Faculty and students also received numerous recognitions for scientific presentations, research papers and poster competitions.
The Veterinary and Livestock Innovation and Incubation Foundation (VLIIF) incubated 28 startups, provided ignition grants worth Rs. 50 lakh and facilitated external funding and patent applications.
Student achievements remained outstanding, with NCC cadets excelling at national-level equestrian events, leadership camps, ceremonial parades, sports, youth and heritage festivals.
In Infrastructure development, many projects have been completed and many more are underway, including advanced diagnostic laboratories, CT scan facilities, hospitals, hostels, auditoriums and centres of excellence, further strengthening GADVASU’s position as a leading veterinary and animal sciences institution in the country. Dr. Gill and the university authorities also honored the non-teaching staff for their administrative contributions, achievements and exemplary works.
After the Vice-Chancellor's address, the students musically linked the event with patriotism by presenting patriotic songs. University officials, heads of departments, employees and students participated in this event dedicated to Independence Day. The entire event was organized well-mannered under the leadership of Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal, Director Students’ Welfare.
