Animal Welfare Camp at Adopted Village Bela Sariana, Block Hajipur

August 20

Under the visionary guidance of the Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor and in accordance with the directions of Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, the Regional Research and Training Centre (RRTC), Talwara has undertaken the initiative of adopting a village within its operational area. The initiative has been taken with the objective of establishing a strong and sustained linkage between livestock farmers and scientists, ensuring regular interaction, and providing need-based veterinary, animal health and livestock extension services at the village level. Accordingly, Village Bela Sariana, Block Hajipur, has been adopted by RRTC, Talwara. In this connection, an Animal Welfare Camp was organized at the adopted village under the supervision of Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Director, RRTC, Talwara. Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Dr. Hujaz Tariq and Dr. Niharika Thakur, were also present during the camp and provided veterinary guidance and solutions to the queries raised by the farmers. A total of 35 farmers/livestock owners attended the camp. During the interaction, farmers raised various queries and problems related to livestock health, feeding, management, disease prevention and general animal welfare. The technical team addressed their concerns and provided appropriate explanations, guidance and recommendations for the issues discussed. The camp also served as a platform for direct interaction with the farmers to understand the livestock-related problems prevailing in the area. The farmers were encouraged to follow scientific livestock management practices, maintain proper hygiene and sanitation, ensure timely vaccination and deworming and seek timely veterinary assistance whenever required. Similar animal welfare and awareness camps will be organized every month in the adopted village. In future, other relevant departments, government agencies, financial institutions and banks will also be involved in these activities. The initiative is expected to strengthen the farmer–scientist interface and facilitate continuous technical support to livestock farmers of the adopted village.
