The two-day ‘Pashu Palan Mela’ organized by Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences Univ
ersity, Ludhiana concluded today with the message of adopting better biosecurity measures for the farms. A large numb
er of farmers registered their participation in the fair and showed their interest in learning new techniques. On the second day, at the closing and prize distribution ceremony, Sh. Harpreet Singh Sandhu, State Information Commissioner, Government of Punjab, was the chief guest. Sh. Sukhjeet Pal Singh, Registrar and officiating Vice Chancellor of PAU also graced the mela as guest of honour.
Sh. Sandhu said that it’s a matter of pride that this university was named in the name of the second Guru, Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji. He acknowledged the contribution of veterinary and allied sciences to empower farmers with knowledge. He praised the contribution of the university to bring the scientist onto one common platform through exhibition, live demonstration and other practical interventions.
Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice Chancellor discussed the contributions made by the university for the welfare of farmers. He said that farmers’ feedback is the backbone for our future research so every farmer should try to give some suggestions for our future endeavours. He encouraged farmers to try any product developed by the university for better health and production at their farms.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education said that some of our 
departments provide services related to animal husbandry while some departments train in preparing new products by adding value to the animal products. He said that good income can be earned by sitting at home with such work. He said that the speciality of these professions is that women can also do the
m easily. He said that ornamental fish, aquariums for fish, flavored milk, lassi, paneer, meat and egg pickles, koftas, patties, Meat balls and various delicious dishes prepared from fish mince can be made. The University's College of Dairy and Food Science Technology, Department of Livestock Production prepared various types of meat and egg products, while the Fisheries College also displayed a large number of products. Dr. Grewal said that the animal husbandry farmers expressed their keen interest in improving the animal husbandry profession and adopting scientific techniques.
Different departments of the university shared their knowledge and information with the livestock farmers. The Animal Nutrition Department has developed many new technologies such as bypass fat and mineral mixture for feeding of animals. The livestock farmers were also informed about the balanced amount for preparing animal feed. The farmers were also informed about the benefits of artificial insemination. The Fisheries College organized an exhibition of different types of farmable fish such as carp fish, cat fish, shrimp fish and ornamental fish. The University's Center for One Health shared awareness to the people and pet owners about diseases 
transmitted from animals to humans.
The experts of the University’s Veterinary Hospital, who work for the health problems of animals, told the farmers that they can get 
any kind of clinical service. The university’s publications ‘Dairy Farming’, ‘Package of practices', monthly magazine and other publications were also the center of attraction for the farmers.
On this occasion different products, booklets and publications prepared by the scientists of the university were launched by eminent personalities. These included booklets ‘Success Stories of entrepreneurs’, ‘Management of Equines’, ‘Dairy and Poultry Startup’, ‘Jal Jeev Palan: Jaivik Surakhya’, ‘Sustainable Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Post-Harvest management Practices’ were released. A Mobile App for Pig Management was also released. A Hair Shampoo prepared from Goat Milk was also released in this event.
Progressive farmers who have established their professions after taking training from the university and the organizations working in association with the university were also honored. Eminent folk singer Janab Mohd. Siddique entertained the farmers with their popular numbers and songs.
More than 100 stalls were set up by various departments of the university, medicines, machinery, animal husbandry departments of the Punjab government and organizations working in association with the university. Out 
of these stalls, Carus Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. was awarded first, De Heus Animal Nutrition was awarded second, Big Bro Animal Feed was awarded third while Spenco Agriculture implements was awarded with consolation prize and certificate. In the university category, Livestock Production Management was awarded first, Animal Nutrition was awarded second, Veterinary Pathology was awarded third and Centre for One Health was awarded consolation prize. College of Fisheries and College of Dairy and Food Science and Technology got awards of excellence. On this occasion, Sh. Harpreet Singh Sandhu, Dr. Amrish Vaid and Dr. Parminder Singh former additional director of extension education vet varsity were honored.
