Dr Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director, Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University participated in the “Second Technical Working Group Meeting on Biosafety and Biosecurity Laboratories in India”. The four-day event was held at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Dr JPS Gill, Vice-Chancellor congratulated the scientists of the Centre for One Health for representing the University at this prestigious meeting.
The event was part of the core, “National Strategic Dialogue on Biosafety, Biosecurity and Special Pathogen Research Preparedness”. Dr Bedi also delivered an expert lecture entitled “One Health Strategies for Community-Based Prevention, Surveillance, and Risk Reduction of Zoonoses” to a select cohort of 25 scientists drawn from across the country. Dr. Bedi highlighted the importance of community-centred surveillance, multisectoral coordination, early detection of zoonotic threats, and locally appropriate risk-reduction interventions for strengthening national health security. Dr Pankaj Dhaka from the same centre was also nominated to the Technical Working Group (TWG), further strengthening the University’s contribution to the development of national biosafety and biosecurity guidance. The programme, coordinated by Dr Vikram Saini, AIIMS, New Delhi and international expert Natasha K. Griffith from SOTER, Roswell, Georgia, USA, focused on laboratory SOPs and high-containment facility operations. The participation reflects Varsity’s growing national leadership in One Health, zoonoses prevention and biosafety preparedness.
