Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized two days training on ‘Efficient technologies in pig production’ under scheme: Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna-11 
(Special Component) SC/ST farmers of Punjab at Malhan Pork Farm, Bohan. Twenty five farmers from different areas of Punjab participated in this training. In the concluding function of the training Dr. Maninder Bons, Deputy Director (T) KVK Bahowal said that pig farming is the need of the hour and there is huge potential ahead for rearing pig for pork production in near future. Moreover feed accounts for 65% of total cost of pig farming and by using nutritional technologies farmers can economize feeding of their pigs to make it a profitable venture, which not only provide the needed employment to the unemployed youth but also leads to diversification in agriculture.
Experts delivered lectures on various aspects of pig farming along with practical demonstrations. The objective of the training was to discuss balanced feeding of different categories of swine with locally available feed ingredients, use of food and vegetable waste for economical feeding and role of minerals in pig production. In addition light 
was thrown on various aspects of modern technologies for efficient pig production, selection of pigs, efficient housing and reproductive management and ways to prevent piglet anaemia. Dr. JS Hundal and Dr Udeybir Singh Course coordinators revealed that all the farmers showed great interest in pig farming and are committed to undertake or expand the venture shortly. He further added that the department of Animal Nutrition, GADVASU has facility to test quality of feed or feed ingredients, fodder, silage at nominal charges for the larger benefits of the farmers.
