KVK, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) conducts vocational training course on Beekeeping
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) conducted 5 days vocational training course on Beekeeping for farmers and youth at village Mote Majra under the supervision of Deputy Director, KVK, Dr. Yashwant Singh with the motive to provide knowledge to start this occupation. Thirty participants including young boys, girls and
farmers participated during this training programme.
Dr. Yashwant Singh stressed the importance of honey bees and honey in human life. Programme Incharge Dr. Harmeet Kaur provided detailed information regarding history of honey bees, their life cycle, management of harmful insects and diseases of honey bees. During the programme Dr. Munish Sharma provided information on food of honey bees and pollination services provided by them. Dr. Parul Gupta stressed on value addition of honey and explained the ways of making value added products from honey.
Agriculture Development Officer Sh. Jaideep and Horticulture Development Officer Ms. Vaishali provided details regarding seasonal bee management and subsidy provisions in bee keeping profession. An exposure visit was also planned under this vocational training at Shergill farm, village Sohali where S. Harjinder Singh Shergill shared his practical knowledge of 40 years on beekeeping. Village sarpanch of Mote Majra thanked KVK team for organising such programme in their village and urged to organise such programmes in future for the welfare of farmer and youth.
