Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrates World Digestive Health Day

During covid-19 pandemic, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana celebrated World Digestive Health Day from its campus. On this occasion, an online workshop on "Vegetable processing at small scale" was organized to enlighten the farm community about the need of vegetable processing aiming

both at good digestive health and improved livelihood security. During the workshop, about 25 farmers have participated from district Tarn Taran and other districts of Punjab. Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director, Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana while chairing the session, passed an important message to increase individual vegetable consumption on per day basis to curb viral infections. Coordinating the session, Dr Nirmal Singh welcomed all the scientists and participants and briefed about the present workshop. Continuing the event, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, emphasized on establishment of small-scale vegetable processing units in order to increase farm income along with improving the health status of their families. Further, Dr Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor (Home Science) disseminated technical knowledge regarding farmer-friendly low-cost vegetable processing equipments to set up small-scale vegetable processing unit. Besides, Dr Poonam A. Sachdev, Head, Food Science and Technology, PAU, Ludhiana and Dr BVC Mahajan, P. H. P. T. C. Ludhiana shared their experiences regarding processing of major vegetable crops (pea, potato and chilli). In addition, Dr Nikhil Ambish Mehta, Member, Punjab State Farmer's Commission explained about subsidized machinery for vegetable processing in detail. Dr Harish Kumar Verma congratulated KVK team for making the day a grand success.
