Vet Varsity organises National Webinar on Entrepreneurship in Goat Farming for Young Graduates

Department of Livestock Production Management, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has organized a National Webinar on Industry- Academia- Students interface on the topic, “Entrepreneurship in Goat Farming for Young Graduates” under the aegis of Institutional Development Plan (IDP) of National Agricultural Higher Education Poroject.  

The webinar was conducted and moderated by Dr. Manish Chatli, Head of the department. Dr. Mandeep Singla and Dr. Sandeep Kaswan acted as coordinators for this event. Dr. Manish Chatli introduced all the speakers to the participants viz. Mr Sanjeev Kumar, Founder & Adviser, The Goat Trust, Lucknow; Dr Mukul Anand, Asstt. Prof., Veterinary University, Mathura, Dr Mahesh Dige, Scientist, National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal; and Progressive Goat Farmer and Entrepreneurs Mr. Rahul Kasnia and Mr. Raghav.

Dr. Mukul Anand elaborated in detail management of goat farms, reproductive problems, entrepreneurship opportunities for selling quality germplasm. Dr. Mahesh Dige narrated about strategies of breeding and selection in important indigenous goat breeds. Mr. Sanjeev shared the success story of PashuBajaar an E-commerce model for marketing of goats and goat products. He highlighted the community based marketing channels and concept of Pashu Sakhi. His views were widely appreciated by the participants. Mr. Raghav shared his story of transition from software graduate to progressive goat entrepreneur and emphasized on minimization of input costs to become successful. Mr. Rahul Kasnia also shared his views from being a MBA to successful goat entrepreneur after getting training from GADVASU, leading to winning prestigious Chief Minister’s Progressive goat farmer (GADVASU) and Breed Saviour Awards. Dr Mandeep Singla conducted the brainstorming question answer session while Dr Sandeep Kaswan extended vote of thanks to all.  

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the organizers for selecting such an important topic. He further stressed that the students should adopt goat farming as an enterprise and become an employer rather than looking only for Government jobs. He also highlighted the importance of Self-Help Groups and Food Processing Organization for the success of endeavours.
