Farmers Awareness Camp on Crop Residue Management organized at Village Bhaupur Havelian

Farmers Awareness Camp on Crop residue management with the theme of in-situ management of paddy straw was conducted at village Sangwan, district Tarn Taran. Approximately 65 farmers participated in the event. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (T), KVK, Tarn Taran welcomed all the farmers of the village and briefed about the project on crop residue management funded by ICAR, New Delhi. He told that KVK Tarn Taran has adopted two villages for paddy straw management and Bhagupur Havelian is one of them. Demonstrations using happy seeder, mulcher, MB plough, Rotavator, etc. will be laid out for sowing wheat without burning of paddy straw. Dr Kumar discussed in detail about the sowing of wheat in standing paddy stubble with the help of happy seeder and stressed on precautionary measures to be adopted for sowing of wheat following happy seeder. Dr. Kumar also stressed to feed Basmati rice straw to the livestock by enriching its quality by treating it with urea. Dr Anil Kumar, soil expert at KVK discussed about nutrient and water management in wheat either sown by happy seeder or conventional methods. He especially stressed on the sulphur and manganese nutrient management in wheat. Dr Nirmal Singh, Horticulturist interacted on the aspect of sowing vegetable crops especially pea following MB plough technology of paddy straw management. The farmers also raised some queries regarding management of paddy straw which were resolved on the support and technical guidance provided in detail. Farmers assured that they will 100% support KVK efforts to manage the paddy straw in their village.
