KVK Mohali Organizes Vocational Training on In-situ Crop Residue Management

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sahibjada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) conducted a one-week vocational training on ‘In-situ Crop Residue Management’ at village Tajpura, block Majri. Twenty five farmers/youth belonging to three villages namely Tajpura, Bhup Nagar

and Dakhtana participated in this training. In the inaugural address, Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK Mohali apprised the farmers regarding the purpose of this training and appealed them to shun the practice of burning the crop residues and rather mix it in the field. Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor, Fisheries Coordinator of this training program provided an overview of various technological options available for appropriate management of crop residues. He also highlighted the utilization of crop residues at industrial level and emphasized on policy interventions done at the govt. level for the management of crop residues. Dr. Munish Sharma discussed regarding utilization of crop residues in horticulture. Dr. Shashi Pal discussed the uses of crop residues in dairy farming. Dr. G. S. Makkad, Deputy Director, KVK Ropar stressed on the importance of crop residue in improving the soil fertility. Dr. Opinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Agronomy (KVK Ropar) provided technical specifications regarding use of happy seeder and super SMS in crop residue management. He also focused on important things to consider while mixing crop residue in fields through happy seeder. Expert lectures through web mode were also arranged in this training. Dr. Suryender Singh, Assistant Professor, Agronomy from KVK Barnala delivered online lectures on sowing of wheat crop with happy seeder in super SMS attached combine harvested paddy fields and fertilizers management in happy seeder sown wheat crop. Dr. Navjot Singh Brar shared the knowledge on integrated weeds and nutrients management in wheat. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor Home Science explained the uses of crop residue at domestic level and encouraged farmers to prepare decorative items from these residue for self-employment. Dr. Phulia told regarding various in-situ crop residue machineries available for farmers at KVK Mohali. He also appealed the farmers to ensure zero cases of stubble burning in their villages and help the administration to get rid of this menace of stubble burning to make our environment better for living beings. The farmers pledged to not burn crop residue and rather mix in the soil itself.
