College of Animal Biotechnology of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana conducted an online quiz competition for the students on the occasion of World Polio Day. The organizers provided brochure and reference material on vaccines to the students for preparation and encouraged them to update their knowledge on vaccines and vaccination issues.
There was an overwhelming participation from both the Under-graduate and Post-graduate students. Three top-scorers were awarded with merit certificates. On this occasion, Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology emphasized the importance of vaccines, which are recognized as the major public health accomplishments since the concept of vaccination emerged for smallpox in 1796. He further added that in the current scenario of coronavirus infection, this Quiz Competition will disseminate knowledge on emerging concepts in vaccines. He complemented the efforts of the organizing team for planning the event.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU highlighted the importance of vaccines in reference to the current COVID pandemic situation. He underscored that COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the significance of vaccines. The World Polio Day also celebrates the success of vaccination in eradicating a disease. He congratulated the faculty and staff of the College of Animal Biotechnology for their initiative to conduct the quiz competition and further extended that this quiz contest would create awareness among the youth about the disease and the impact of vaccines and vaccination strategies in combating infectious disasters.
