Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) conducted vocational training course on Beekeeping
To flourish beekeeping as a side business, a five days vocational training was conducted at village Chharwar. Seventeen participants (15 male, 2 female) participated during this training course. Training Incharge, Dr. Harmeet Kaur guided the participants regarding importance of beekeeping, types of honeybee, life cycle of honeybee, protection of honeybees from insects, diseases and pesticides. During this programme, Dr. Yuvraj Singh Pandha from department of Entomology, PAU, Ludhiana guided the participants regarding seasonal management of bee boxes in different seasons of Punjab. Dr. Munish Sharma from KVK, S.A.S. Nagar explained bee flora under Punjab conditions and pollination services provided by honeybees to mankind. Jaspreet, Singh HDO from block Dera Bassi, SAS Nagar shared information regarding different schemes of department for beekeepers. During this training course, a progressive beekeeper, Mr. Madan Lal also shared his experience of beekeeping with participants. He also provided important tips to start beekeeping. An exposure visit was also planned at village Mathiara under this training course where Mr. Paramjeet Singh showed his bee colonies to the participants. The trainees thanked KVK, S.A.S. Nagar staff to conduct this training course and showed interest in future trainings.
