Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar organizes vocational training programme on Development of value added products through baking

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar organized one-week vocational training programme on ‘Development of value added products through baking’ at K.V.K. premises. This programme was inaugurated by Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali. In his inaugural lecture, he motivated the farm women and young girls to adopt baking as a profession as this is the lucrative business now a day. He also discussed regarding importance of FSSAI for food ventures. Meanwhile, Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (H.Sc.) and coordinator of this training programme informed about the basics of Baking technology. She said that baking is a method of preparing food that uses dry heat, typically in an oven, but can also be done in hot ashes or on hot stones. She also demonstrated different types of value added products through baking viz. cakes, muffins, cookies, etc. During this training programme, Ms. Janmeet, a home baker from S.A.S. Nagar Mohali was invited to share her experiences with the participants. She guided the trainees about importance of measurement in baking, various tools and equipments required to start a small venture.  She also shared her journey and problems faced by her while doing her bakery business. Dr. Piverjit Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor emphasized about development of nutraceutical bakery products. She demonstrated recipes of nutraceutical muffins and cookies with addition of defatted soy flour.On the last day of training certificates were distributed to the participants after the training.
