To celebrate the milk awareness week related to World Milk Day on 1st June, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized e-gosthi on “Importance of Milk” in our daily life. There were 18 participants who took part in this e-gosthi. There was an open discussion regarding the milk yield of animals, feeding constraints and milk composition. Participants shared their views on the importance of milk. They put different questions related to pasteurization of milk, milk quality and enhancing its shelf life. They were also surprised to know that pasteurized milk can be consumed without boiling. Dr. Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor (LP) emphasized the testing of milk and control of mastitis in dairy animals. He also stressed on the milk quality check on the basis of Somatic Cells Count (SCC) which reflect the udder health of the animals and mastitis condition. Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) discussed the nutritional importance of milk, its value addition and preparation of milk products. Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director advised the participants to take care of feed, feed ingredients and fodder as quality input produces quality output.
