Vet Varsity conducts Session on ‘Save Soil’ for NSS volunteers to mark Earth Day

April 5

To mark the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day, NSS Wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana conducted a session to spread a word about #savesoilmovement in association with 'Save Soil' Volunteers.  The volunteers interacted with more than 80 students who registered to become EARTH BUDDIES.  Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students’ Welfare, congratulated the Save Soil volunteers for motivating students for a green and prosperous environment.

In a PowerPoint presentation, the students were informed that Save Soil is an effort to address the degeneration of soil, which has a direct impact on the quality of our food.  They were enlightened that 63% of India’s soil has organic content of less than 0.5%.  So much so, ‘we have only 60 years of Soil left’, as per UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Dr. Nidhi Sharma, NSS Programme Coordinator, GADVASU told that the theme of Earth Day 2022 is ‘Invest In Our Planet’. The NSS volunteers were shown a presentation that the time is ‘now’ to restore nature and build a healthy planet for prosperous and sustainable future”.

Dr. C S Mukhopadhyay, NSS Programme Officer of College of Animal Biotechnology said that to make a meaningful contribution NSS volunteers must join the save soil movement to support long-term government policies to revitalize soil.
