Deliberation on Pig farming held at Vet Varsity

The Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a seminar for Pig farmers. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education informed that pig farming is a popular occupation among farmers and entrepreneurs in Punjab. Commercialization in this sector has opened new opportunities for self-employment. The university has been providing technical assistance to pig farmers in the state through extension activities as well as availability of literature and inputs. Seminars are organized regularly for the farmers to empower them with the knowledge of latest developments and technology. He added that farmer scientist interactions are important for knowledge sharing and advancement of the livestock sector.  Dr. Udeybir Singh, HoD, Animal Nutrition discussed the use of conventional as well as non-conventional feedstuffs in the formulation of feed for pigs. He pointed out the increasing importance of non-conventional feed sources to cut the production costs in pig farming. He also spoke about the benefits of a balanced diet on the performance of pigs. Dr. R K Sharma discussed the benefits of efficient reproductive management in pig farming. He shared various techniques for improving the reproductive performance of pigs. Dr. Jaswinder Singh and Dr. Arunbeer Singh coordinated the seminar. Around 40 farmers from different districts participated in the seminar.
