Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana added another feather in its cap by inaugurating a 24 hour working Reading Hall for the students and staff members of varsity. The Hall has been named after its alumnus Dr. Jasmer Singh, an eminent founder of College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana who retired as HoD (Vety Parasitology) in 2004.
The Hall was inaugurated by Dr. Rajdeep Singh son of Dr. Jasmer Singh, also an alumnus of varsity. He is a leading private practitioner at California (USA), who donated INR 50 lacs as a kind gesture to repay back to the alma mater as well as to his father by naming the reading hall in the honour of his father’s name.
Dr. T.S. Rai, University Librarian, welcomed Dr. Rajdeep Singh and august gathering and informed that the naming of this hall will be a real tribute to Dr. Jasmer Singh who had a great hobby of reading scientific journals and visiting the library daily. He thanked Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor for being instrumental in giving this facility to the students. He said that the reading hall is well equipped with all modern facilities.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor felicitated Dr. Rajdeep Singh with a certificate of appreciation and a shawl. He applauded Dr. Rajdeep Singh for donating a very generous amount and said that it was one of the unique kinds of philanthropy where it was for the first time that a student has contributed so much to the varsity.
Dr. Rajdeep Singh said that whatever he is today is all due to the hard efforts by his parents. He and his sister are doing well in the USA for their profession. He said that his father was a blend of academics and sports.
Dr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Dev Raj Sharma retired dean and HoD who had very close association with Dr. Jasmer Singh also praised his scientific acumen reflected in attending the outbreaks of disease and giving accurate diagnosis. Dr. Dev Raj Sharma also announced INR 1 lac for GADVASU Library.
Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Dean College of Veterinary Science thanked the Vice Chancellor, all officers, HoDs, senior teachers and retirees as well as library staff for gracing the function.
