Vet Varsity Conducts Training-cum-demonstration camp on value addition of milk for women farmers
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized method demonstration and training camp on value addition of milk for women farmers of Dhaner village under ICAR sponsored Farmer FIRST Project.
Under the leadership of Dr. P.S. Brar, Director of Extension Education-cum-Nodal Officer of Farmer FIRST Project, and Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator, this innovative approach towards women empowerment was arranged. 21 women beneficiary farmers participated in the event. Dr. Gopika Talwar, Dr. Rekha Chawla and Dr. Gurpreet Kour Tulla shared knowledge on different aspects.
Dr. Gopika Talwar deliberated on the importance of packaging of value added products and conducted hands-on training for cup-sealer machines and hand-sealer machines to the trainees. She highlighted the use of cup/glass sealer machines to pack products like kheer, lassi, whey drinks or flavoured milks etc. The women farmers had already been trained for these products. She suggested them to pack the products like paneer, chhaina, sweets etc. with a hand sealer machine.
Dr. Rekha Chawla trained the beneficiaries for the scientific method of paneer making and addressed their queries about the process. The team members motivated them to adopt the scientific methods of adding value to the milk by-products and adopt the entrepreneurial approach by packing the products with modern equipment and right marketing.
