INSPIRE fellowship for GADVASU Ph.D. scholar

A PhD scholar Dr. Chandan Singh of Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU, Ludhiana has been selected for “INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research)” fellowship for pursuing his Ph.D. programme at GADVASU by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

INSPIRE Program is focused on attraction of student to pursue doctoral degree in basic and applied sciences including engineering, medicine, agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy etc. after either masters’ degree in science or bachelor/ masters’ degree in engineering/ applied sciences. In Veterinary Science category the “INSPIRE” fellowship is awarded to two Veterinary students only. The students are selected among the First Rank / Gold Medal holders in postgraduate programme for pursuing doctoral programme in Science & Technology. The fellowship is under Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) - a component of the `Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’ being implemented by DST (Department of Science and Technology), Ministry of Science and Technology.

Dr. N.S. Saini, Head of the department, Veterinary Surgery and Radiology said that Dr. Chandan Singh is the first student from the GADVASU, who has been selected for INSPIRE fellowship. Dr. Saini further added that Dr. Chandan Singh did his B.V.Sc. & A.H. from College of Veterinary Science, KVAFSU, Bidar, (Karnataka) and was awarded Gold medal for highest OCPA in B.V.Sc. & A.H and he did his Master’s degree with distinction from Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, GADVASU, Ludhiana. Recently he has also been selected as captain in Remount Veterinary Corps (Indian Army).

He was also recipient of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) from ICAR, New Delhi, during his M.V.Sc. programme. He was the topper student of M.V.Sc. 2007 batch of GADVASU, Ludhiana. He has already published one research article and his five papers has been accepted in the journals of national repute.

He did his M.V.Sc. under the guidance of Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean, COVS. Dr S.S. Singh, Dean, COVS commented that Dr. Chandan Singh is a very meritorious and hard working student who rightly deserve this honor and wished him good luck. He also exhorted other student of GADVASU to work hard and study hard to achieve national and international feats
