Brief Introduction

Dr. Tejinder Singh Rai, born on April 10, 1963, obtained BVSc & AH with Gold Medal from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS, HAU), Hisar in December 1985, MVSc in Veterinary Microbiology from CCS, HAU, Hisar in May 1989 with Sh. Rajinder Pal Singh Gold Medal for Best Thesis Award and PhD in Veterinary Bacteriology and Virology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab) in September 2000. After joining as Assistant Professor Veterinary Bacteriology and Virology on 02-05-1990, he became Professor of Veterinary Bacteriology at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) in 2008, acted as Head, Department of Veterinary Microbiology (12-06-2015 to 31-12-2020), and is serving as Librarian, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) since 30-05-2022.

Dr. Rai has expertise in the field of Diagnostic Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology along with mycotoxicosis. He has tried sonicated vaccine formulation against salmonellosis in mice, cow-calves (against Salmonella dublin) as well as poultry (against Salmonella Gallinarum) with promising results during his Master’s as well as doctoral studies. He has been associated with many projects funded by ICAR, UGC, DBT, RKVY, Punjab State etc. His studies proved the notation that mycotoxins suppress immune response and making cattle, buffalo, sheep etc. susceptible to other bacterial or viral infections especially reproductive or respiratory infections.

Dr. Rai has earned Best Presentation Awards during conferences and workshops. He has guided guided two Ph.D. and 13 Master's students on various aspects of bacterial diseases (like infectious coryza, campylobacteriosis, brucellosis, haemorrhagic septicaemia (H.S.), salmonellosis), mycotic infections, mycotoxicosis, phenotypic and genotypic aspects of antimicrobial drug resistance in bacteria especially MRSA from poultry, cattle and farm premises). There are 27 research papers in various national and international Journals of repute and 10 chapters in the books as well as 5 popular articles, 10 teaching manuals and 2 CDs for UG courses of B.V.Sc. and A.H. to his credit. He is reviewer of about 5 Journals of repute and life member of about 13 national societies related to Microbiology and Immunology. During his tenure of headship, he organized an International Workshop on "Antimicrobial Resistance and Strategies for its Mitigation" at GADVASU, Ludhiana in collaboration with Centre of Science and Technology, New Delhi of Non-Aligned and other developing nations from July 10-13, 2018. About 25 delegates participated from 15 countries.
