Brief Introduction

Professor Balbir Bagicha Singh Dhaliwaljoined as Coordinator Research on 2nd July 2025 and serves as Professor, Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at the Centre for One Health,Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, India. His additional appointments include Honorary lecturer at the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, The University of Sydney, Australia and Adjunct professor at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. He was Head, Department of Microbial & Environmental Biotechnology, College of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU from March 2023 to July 2025. He participated as a Visiting Scientist at the Centre for Foodborne and Animal Parasitology, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, OIE Reference (Trichinella) Lab and Collaborating (Foodborne zoonotic parasites) Centre, Saskatoon, Canada during 2012.
Dr. Dhaliwal is a passionate epidemiologist and veterinary public health specialist with a master’s in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health (with Merit) from the Royal Veterinary College and a Post-doctoral Fellowship from The University of Sydney. Dr. Dhaliwal brings with him more than 23 years of experience in teaching and conducting research in veterinary epidemiology, zoonoses and public health, including publishing books and several articles in reputed international journals (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-6823-6146). He is highly skilled and adept in surveillance, health economics, risk factor investigation, risk analysis, disease modelling, and outbreak investigation. He was member of the expert group, FAO of the United Nations for risk assessment of the Streptococcus agalactiae clonal complex (CC) 283 in South- East Asia (2020). Dr. Dhaliwal has successfully managed and coordinated several research and development projects on one health, disease epidemiology with special emphasis on zoonotic pathogens. Dr. Dhaliwal sits on the editorial board of reputed journals such as Scientific Reports and Preventive Veterinary Medicine. He is recipient of several prestigious fellowships such as Endeavour research fellowship Australian Government (2018), Commonwealth distance learning fellowship UK (2017-2018), One Health Eco Health scholarship 2016, Brazilian One Health fellowship (2015), WAAVP scholarship funding (2013) and the flemish VLIR – UOS grant (2007).
