Brief Introduction :

Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi is serving as Director and Professor at the Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. With over 21 years of experience in veterinary public health and epidemiology, Dr. Bedi is a highly accomplished academician and researcher. Dr. Bedi holds a Ph.D. and Master’s in Veterinary Public Health and an M.Sc. in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health from the Royal Veterinary College, London. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, USA. Dr. Bedi’s research focuses on critical issues such as zoonotic diseases, food safety, farm biosecurity and antimicrobial resistance. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed research publications, six book chapters, eight handbooks, and 80 extension articles. Notably, he co-authored the “Textbook on Zoonoses” published by Wiley in 2022, which has become an essential resource for professionals in the field. Dr. Bedi significantly contributed to various research projects funded by renowned organizations like Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Indian Council of Medical Research, Department of Biotechnology, University Grants Commission and the Gates Foundation. His academic accomplishments have earned him numerous awards and recognitions. These include the Best Researcher Award from GADVASU in 2018 for his applied in veterinary public health, the Dr. V.N. Bachhil Young Scientist Award from the Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS) in 2012, and the Commonwealth Scholarship for his advanced studies in the United Kingdom and was named a Fellow of IAVPHS in 2021. In 2024, Dr Bedi honoured with the Dr. R.K. Aggarwal Award for exceptional contributions to food safety.Dr. Bedi has also played a pivotal role in organizing and leading high-profile academic events and training programs. As Organizing Secretary, he led the 21 days ICAR-sponsored Winter School on Applied Concepts in One Health in 2024, which focused on addressing zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety. In 2021, he organized the International e-Symposium on One Health, alongside the XVII Annual Conference of IAVPHS, bringing together experts from around the globe. Dr Bedi has also spearheaded academic initiatives, such as launching the Post Graduate Diploma in One Health (Distance Learning Mode) at GADVASU, which has trained numerous professionals in the interdisciplinary approach needed to address merging health challenges. Further, Dr. Bedi has developed innovative solutions, such as the “Antimicrobial Awareness” mobile app, aimed at educating the public and promoting responsible antimicrobial use. He has also contributed to critical policy frameworks, co-authoring the "Diagnosis and Control of Rabies in Animals in India by 2030," published by the National Academy of Veterinary Science and the Centre for One Health at GADVASU. Dr. Bedi’s contributions extend to mentoring young scientists and guiding research in One Health and also developing collaborations with Medical institutes in the region. His vision and leadership continue to shape the future of veterinary public health, making significant strides in safeguarding both human and animal health.
