Brief Introduction

Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, born on August 6, 1969, obtained BVSc & AH from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana in 1992, MVSc from PAU, Ludhiana in 1995 and PhD from University of Liverpool, UK, under Commonwealth Scholarship Plan, in 2004. After joining as Assistant Professor in Department of Veterinary Gynecology and Obstetrics in 1995 in PAU, he became Professor of Animal Reproduction at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) in 2010, acted as Head, Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (2016-2020), and is serving as Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana since 2020.

Dr. Ghuman’s doctoral studies unravelled the neuroendocrinology of stress and reproduction interaction in ruminants. The main objective of his association with 23 research projects till date was to explore the development of an economical and efficient fixed-time AI protocol for buffalo, understanding summer stress-induced infertility in buffalo and its alleviation through endocrine interventions especially melatonin implants, and increasing survival rate in dystocia affected dairy animals.

Dr. Ghuman’s research work earned Nils Lagerlof Memorial Award-2010, 2015, 2016; Dr NC Sharma Memorial Award-2010, 2017; Dr. RD Sharma Award-2016, 2017, 2018 and 28 Young Scientist/Best Presentation Awards during conferences. To his credit are 12 review articles, 57 international and 136 national scientific publications, 53 books, monographs, bulletins and manuals, 133 popular articles, a regional language book on ‘Scientific Dairy farming’ and a Video-DVD on Animal Reproduction demonstrations. He has enlightened the scientific community with 74 invited papers in conferences and training courses, guided 9 MVSc students and worked as ‘Editor of Indian Journal of Animal Reproduction (2016-2019)’. On account of his meritorious contributions, he became fellow of ‘The Indian Society of Animal Reproduction (ISSAR)’, ‘National Academy of Dairy Science, India (NADSi)’ and ‘National Academy of Veterinary Sciences, India (NAVS)’
