Area of Research Interests

Our laboratory, Animal Stem Cells lab, is working on two aspects of stem cell biology,

1) Exploring strategies to increase milk production in dairy animals by increasing mammary stem cell population using nucleotide analog, to increase cell turnover and lactation persistency

2) Developing regenerative therapy in canines using mesenchymal stem cell and cell-derived products. One of the approaches that we are interested in is the in-situ amelioration of mammary stem/progenitor cells. We are attempting to establish the application of stem cells and cell-based products for therapeutic application in animal diseases namely, mastitis, and wound healing. Finding an alternative therapy of mastitis without the use of antimicrobials and enhancing tissue regeneration using cell-based therapy are our long-term goals of the research.
