The major objectives of post graduate
programme of the college are to produce trained human resource to meet the
technical manpower requirement in the field of teaching, research and extension
related to Dairy Microbiology. It also conducts research in the subject as per
the demand of the industry and priority of the university. The department has highly
competent and dynamic faculty members who have made significant contributions
in research field of Dairy Microbiology and have bagged various national and
international awards. Main
research activity at the department is exploitation of indigenous beneficial
lactic acid bacteria for human health and development of products containing
these probiotic bacteria. Significant work has been conducted on various
probiotic and synbiotic product formulations and study of their shelf-life.
Apart from this, faculty of Dairy Microbiology participates as resource persons
in several training programs organized by other Departments of the University.
Currently, six extramural research projects are running in the department funded
by different agencies like UGC, DST and MOFPI etc.
