Advanced training course on improving reproductive efficiency of dairy animals held at Vet Varsity

September 29 Expiring at: May 10

Twenty-fifth advanced training course for teachers and scientists from colleges and universities, on ‘Improving reproduction rate in ruminants by suitable reproductive technologies’ was held in Centre for Advanced Faculty Training CAFT, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, GADVASU Centre. Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) recognized this center in 1996 for providing advanced trainings to teachers/scientists, related to area of animal reproduction, from different State and Central Agriculture Universities of the country. Dr P S Brar, Director of the Centre, told that efficient reproduction is critical for an economically viable dairy system and profitability can be increased further using modern reproductive technologies, hence the current training course was focused on recent technologies like fixed-time artificial insemination protocols, in vitro handling of oocytes and production of embryos, genomics for marker-assisted selection, reproductive sonography (grey and color), and immunoassays (RIA/ELISA) etc. Dr Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Course coordinator told that keeping past experience and future in mind, the broad perspective provided in this training will be undoubtedly useful for scientific and teaching community for understanding and adopting application of reproductive technologies, combating problems and hence contributing towards efficient reproductive management in ruminants. The participants were given practical exposure and updated knowledge for improving the success rate of Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer Technology for a great impact on genetic upgradation, improving reproductive efficieny of buffalo during low-breeding season and reducing higher rates of embryonic/fetal mortality.Dr M Honaprkhe, other course coordinator mentioned that teachers and scientists from colleges and universities of 8 states in the country participated in this 21-day-long training course. During the course, experts were invited from Pantnagar, Palampur, Hisar and Barielly for interacting with the participants. Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean PGS cum CAFT coordinator of CAFT operational in GADVASU and Dr SNS Randhawa, Director Research appreciated the efforts of faculty for updating the knowledge of participants and for the keen interest shown by participants in refreshing their knowledge.
