Dairypreneurship training course concludes at Vet Varsity

 Directorate of Extension Education and Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized two weeks dairy training programme from 15.05.2017 to 26.05.2017. Dr. Y.S. Jadoun, Training Coordinator informed that total 47 trainees including fourwomen trainees from different parts of Punjab were enrolled for this training. Deliberations on latest nutritional and health management; housing; vaccination; deworming, breed improvement, value addition of milk, reproductive & seasonal management were made during the training. Dr. Rajesh Kasrija (Technical Co-coordinator) informed that different aspects like animal insurances, Govt. Schemes and various other aspects were also covered.  Trainees were imparted theoretical, as well as practical know-how of dairy farming. Trainees were provided with hands-on-practice on recording basic vital parameters like rectal temperature, respiration rate, controlling of animals; calculating weight for balanced feeding and procedure for clean milk production. They were trained to differentiate between healthy and diseased animals and first aid management for animal welfare and timely treatment to minimize the production losses.  Dr. Ravdeep Singh, Co-coordinator of the course informed that dairy trainees were provided Green Sims by IFFCO for Text and Voice calls for updating their knowledge regarding various aspects of farming.

On the concluding session Dr. H. K. Verma, Director Extension Education said that diversification of livestock sector is moving at a very fast pace, where in, the Veterinary University is always working to improve the socio-economic status of the livestock owners by providing them with recent inputs. He advised farmers to take up the knowledge provided to them during training and apply it on their own farms as well as disseminate the same to fellow farmers also. He informed that dairy farming is a very profitable venture, but there is an urgent need to do farming on scientific lines. He also informed that Veterinary University also publishing books and magazines for livestock farmers in Punjabi and has also developed video CDs on different aspects to educate the farmers for ideal management. They were also provided with the literature, pamphlets and other inputs for the animal welfare. Dr S. K. Kansal, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education apprised that Veterinary Varsity is organizing training programmes round the year for livestock farmers, which educate a trainee to become good entrepreneur in the field of Dairy, Poultry, Goat, Pig or Fish farming.
