
A one-week international training programme was successfully conducted by College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. The online training was titled “Advances in Animal Experimentation: Ethics, Animal Models, Alternatives, and Emerging Technologies,”. The programme aimed to strengthen academia-industry collaborations and enhance the understanding of animal experimentation, with a focus on ethical considerations, animal models, alternatives, and emerging technologies. Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice Chancellor, appreciated the efforts of the college scientists and stressed on the need to conduct such training programmes regularly to support capacity building in the field of veterinary and biomedical sciences. The function was graced by the Special Guest, Dr. Alok Dhawan (Former Director, CSIR-IITR, Lucknow), who also delivered a special talk on the toxicology of nanomaterials. Dr. V.K. Dumka, Comptroller, Dr. L.D. Singla, Director HRM, and Dr. Kuldip Gupta, Dean of the College, also inspired the participants with their motivational speeches and appreciated the participants for their active involvement with the receipt of feedback. They emphasized the importance of acquiring fundamental knowledge on the latest trends, models, and technological advancements in experimental research.
This training programme was conducted by Dr. M.K. Lonare (Course Director), and Dr. Afroz Jahan (Course Coordinator) with the technical support of Dr. O.P. Malav, Dr. S.K. Dash, Dr. Maninder Singh, Dr. Tanmoy Mondal, Dr. Swati Aggrawal, Dr. Sreekala S. Mohandas, Dr. Priyanka, and Dr. Priyanka Syal. A total of 251 participants attended the training programme with a diverse pool from pan-India and overseas, such as teaching faculty and students from medical, pharmacy, and different fields of life science institutions and industries. A total of 30 technical sessions were conducted over the period of seven days. The resource persons were from renowned national and international institutions like CSIR-IITR & CDRI Lucknow; IISER Mohali; ICMR-NIOH Ahmedabad; Central University of Punjab, Panjab University, Chandigarh; TANUVAS, Chennai; IVRI Izatnagar; NTR CVSc Andhra Pradesh; ICMR-NIV Pune; CSIR-IICT Hyderabad; Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia; University of Illinois, Chicago, USA; University of South Wales, Sydney, Australia; Long Island University, New York, USA; North Carolina State University, USA; as well as many private partners Lubrizol, Fortrea Inc. Pvt. Ltd., etc. and own university. The scientific deliberation primarily focused on both traditional and emerging tools in animal experimentation, with emphasis on the 3Rs in animal research, industry standards, GLP practices, regulatory guidelines, animal models, and their alternatives like AI, in silico systems, stem cells, zebrafish, Drosophila, smartphones, etc. During the seven-day academia- industry collaboration, scientists and participants engaged in a dynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives. The trainees were actively engaged by asking questions and clarifying their doubts in the field of biomedical research. This training programme significantly contributed to capacity building in the fields of veterinary and biomedical sciences.
