
Department of Livestock Products Technology (LPT), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana in collaboration with the Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), Ludhiana, successfully organized a six-day training program on “Value Addition in the Livestock Sector”. The program, conducted under the Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) initiative, aimed to equip rural youth with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills related to value-added processing of livestock products, with a particular focus on meat, milk and egg processing.
A total of 16 participants from various districts across Punjab attended the training. Dr. Nitin Mehta, HoD and Program Coordinator, highlighted that the sessions were meticulously designed to provide an end-to-end understanding of the value chain i.e. from farm to fork. The training incorporated extensive hands-on practical sessions covering the processing and value addition techniques for milk, meat and eggs, with special attention given to byproduct utilization and environmental sustainability. The program was expertly coordinated by Dr. Ravneet Singh (PAMETI), Dr. Pavan Kumar, and Dr. Rajesh V. Wagh, who ensured smooth and effective delivery of all sessions.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, commended the organizers and collaborators for their unwavering dedication. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in empowering farmers and small-scale processors to establish their own enterprises, thereby promoting self-employment and sustainable livelihoods. He reiterated that these measures are especially crucial given the urgent socio-economic challenges of the present era. Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, lauded the department’s efforts in spotlighting the vast potential and importance of value addition in enhancing farmers’ income. He also acknowledged the valuable collaboration of Dr. K.B. Singh, Director, PAMETI, for facilitating this impactful initiative in a collaborating manner.
