
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Booh Tarn Taran organized a comprehensive school-level awareness camp on In-situ Crop Residue
Management. The camp aimed to educate students about the pressing issue of stubble burning, its harmful effects on soil health and air quality, and the practical
measures available to tackle it effectively.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from school children, who were introduced to the concept of in-situ crop residue management, an eco-friendly alternative to the harmful practice of burning paddy stubble. Through engaging sessions and competitions, the students were encouraged to understand and advocate for environmentally responsible farming practices.
Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Deputy Director of KVK, delivered an in-depth lecture detailing the various initiatives and outreach programs undertaken by Krishi Vigyan Kendra to prevent the practice of stubble burning. He highlighted how KVK has been working at the grassroots level with farmers, and local communities to promote awareness and adoption
of in-situ residue mana
gement techniques.
Dr Navjot Singh spoke extensively about the latest technologies and equipment available for crop residue management. He introduced students to tools like the Super Seeder, Happy Seeder, Rotavator, and Mulcher, which allow the incorporation of paddy straw back into the soil, improving soil fertility while avoiding the need for burning & contributing to improvement of organic matter in the soil.
To further involve the students, a series of competitions were organized, including debate, poster-making, and essay writing, all centered on the theme of crop residue management and prevention of stubble burning. The students showcased commendable creativity and awareness, voicing concerns over air pollution and climate change, and advocating for sustainable agricultural practices.
