Six-Week Bioinformatics Short Course Successfully Completed at GADVASU

February 20

A six-week intensive short course on Bioinformatics, designed to bridge the gap between classical biological sciences and modern computational analysis, was successfully completed at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. The programme aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills required in the rapidly evolving field of computational biology.
Dr. C. S. Mukhopadhyay, Head, Department of Bioinformatics and course coordinator, stated that 12 enthusiastic participants from various colleges and institutions participated in the programme. He said that the hybrid course was structured over six weeks, including five weeks of online instruction followed by one week of on-campus practical training. The online component covered key topics such as biological databases, sequence analysis, genomics, and basic programming concepts used in biological data analysis. The on-campus session provided hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, data analysis workflows, and the application of bioinformatics tools commonly used in research and biotechnology industries.
Dr. R. S. Sethi, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, GADVASU, emphasized that bioinformatics has become an indispensable component of modern biological research, enabling scientists to analyse complex biological data efficiently and accurately. Dr Sethi said that the training was organised to provide participants with both theoretical understanding and practical laboratory competencies in bioinformatics to provide valuable exposure to modern bioinformatics tools and analytical methods that are increasingly essential in genomics, molecular biology, and biotechnology research.
Dr. J. P. S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, congratulated the faculty of College of Animal Biotechnology and appreciated the initiative and stated that such programmes reflect the university’s commitment to strengthening specialised education and capacity building in emerging areas of life sciences.
