Dr R S Sethi, Professor, took over the charge of Additional Director of Research, GADVASU, Ludhiana in March 2022. He was admitted to Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana and obtained his BVSc & AH, MVSc and PhD (Anatomy) degrees in the year 1994, 1996 and 2005, respectively. Dr. Sethi joined the Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana as Assistant Professor (Vety. Anatomy) in 1997 and was elevated to the post of Associate Professor in 2006 and Professor in 2012. He was appointed as Head, Department of Animal Biotechnology, College of Animal Biotechnology in 2018. Dr Sethi is also serving as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Saskatchewan (UoS), Canada and playing instrumental role in the collaborative research projects of UoS, McGill University, Canada and GADVASU. Dr. Sethi has been the most favored and popular teacher among his students which won him the Best Teacher Award in 2018-2019 when it was introduced for the first time in the College.
Dr. Sethi has been a prolific researcher and has handled 11 research projects. His main research areas include airway hyper-responsiveness, inflammation and characterization of immune cell. Dr Sethi is actively involved in various international collaborations including member of Steering Committee for World Veterinary Association’s (WVA) project on Global Quality Standards for Veterinary Education, Project coordinator of Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program on Genome Editing for Food Security and Environment Sustainability (GEFSES) in collaboration with University of McGill Canada and University of Calgary Canada and Co-investigator in the OIE funded twinning the Veterinary Programs at GADVASU and University of Calgary.
He has so far published 1 book, 10 manuals, 8 review articles and 112 research papers and has guided 09 MVSc/MSc and 07 PhD students. In recognition of his scholastic achievements Dr. Sethi has been bestowed upon with several awards and honours. He is Fellow of Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomist (IAVA). Besides Best Veterinarian -Punjab Award 2022 by The Indian Veterinary Association, Best Research Publication Award 2022 by COABT, Veterinary Anatomist of the Year (2021) Award by IAVA, Short-term visiting fellowship by American Association of Anatomists, several Best Paper and Best Poster Awards are also to his credit. He got honoured with Appreciation Award by GADVASU for his contributions towards establishment of COVID-19 testing facility at GADVASU.
Dr Sethi is Associate Editor of Journal of Immunology and Immunopathology and executive member of Society for Immunology and Immunopathology. Dr. Sethi has been instrumental in creation of Veterinary Alumni Association of College of Animal Biotechnology and served the Society as its founder General Secretary. He is a life member of number of professional societies and referee of National/International journals.
