TEACHING-VETERINARY-CLINICAL-COMPLEX

The Graduate programme at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) includes basic and applied training in handling clinical cases and to undertake diagnostic procedures, evaluation and interpretation of laboratory results, correlating them with clinical findings for proper diagnosis, treatment and prediction of prognosis. Teaching Veterinary Hospital of GADVASU, Ludhiana gets large number of clinical cases including small and large animals which provides ample teaching material for undergraduate students. The location of different units of Veterinary Clinics and various clinical departments at one place has provided a well integrated and coordinated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in small and large animals. Teaching Veterinary Hospital has five components

  • Primary unit (Large Animal OPD Clinic)
  • Small Animal Clinic
  • Specialized Unit (Obstetrical and Surgical Operation Theatres for Large Animals)
  • Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory
  • Ambulatory Clinics
  • In the year 2009, about 22000 clinical cases of small (16000) and large animals (6000) were presented for treatment and advice; and more than 10000 clinical samples from these cases were sent to Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory for pathological, Microbiological, Parasitological and Biochemical investigations. In addition, X-ray investigations and Ultrasound scans were also done. The Animal Diagnostics Laboratory provides a highly efficient, personalised diagnostic service to clinicians, particularly in clinical pathology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology etc. for diagnosis and control of animal diseases. In addition to efficient functioning of Teaching Veterinary Hospital, this department also provides physical facilities for training of undergraduate and postgraduate students; coordinate internship programme, provide regular ambulatory service to rural areas; organize training courses for the field Veterinarians and animal owners; organize exhibitions at Pashu Palan Mela etc., and mass communication through Radio, Television and printed literature.
